Here at The Urban Ministry Institute of Los Angeles, we believe that the end goal of Christian leadership training is wisdom. Christian leadership training is intended to contribute to the formation of men and women who possess godly wisdom and Christ-like character. In helping to prepare these leaders, our aim is not just that they become smarter leaders; our deepest desire is that they become wiser leaders - able to discern the leading of the Holy Spirit, to possess the mind of Christ, and to apply the teachings of Scripture in their own, unique ministry context.
Since 2001, The Urban Ministry Institute of Los Angeles has been training, equipping and empowering pastors and leaders through theological education for the urban church. Partnering with us will make a lasting impact for God's Kingdom as you invest in men and women called by God to evangelize, make disciples, and multiply healthy, reproducing churches among the urban poor.

SUPPORT OUR TUMI-LA STAFF
As missionaries with World Impact, our TUMI-LA staff members embrace a lifestyle of simplicity in order to live and work among the urban poor in the communities where we live. To help offset operating expenses for our Institute, we raise our own financial support on a monthly basis.
Please consider giving toward the missionary support of our staff members.

In 2010 Bob submitted his resignation to Taylor University and, together with his wife Chris, joined the staff of World Impact in order to serve the inner city of Los Angeles. Bob is currently the Dean of TUMI-LA, as well as a class facilitator and mentor.
Dave Gutierrez graduated from Dordt College, in Sioux Center, IA, with a BA in Theology and minors in both teaching Bible and missions/evangelism. It was during his college years where he sensed God's calling to love those who were marginalized and to serve in the inner-city. He was married to his wife, Laura, in December of 2001, and in August of 2003, they moved to Los Angeles and began working with World Impact. Since then, Dave has been involved with three church plants (Transformations Church of Hollywood, Christ the Victor, Antioch Community Church) and serves on the Member Care Team for World Impact Los Angeles. Dave has worked with TUMI-LA for 12 years and has been the Site Coordinator of TUMI-LA for the last six years.
MORE WAYS TO GIVE
Close to 80% of TUMI-LA's student body is low-income, struggling financially, and has experienced some type of major financial hardship. Many have a prison background. Some are residents at the Union Rescue Mission. Some are recently unemployed and/or are living with some form of government assistance. Those who do work often hold 2 or 3 part-time jobs to make ends meet and provide for their families. Most are educated to a high-school level and have sometimes struggled in their ability to read or write. All of our students are pastors or lay leaders serving in an established church or church plant and are called by God to impact their communities and serve others.
We believe that finances should not hinder anyone from receiving seminary-level training. In order to make our theological education accessible, TUMI-LA provides student scholarships to help subsidize their education expenses. Currently over 65% of our students are receiving financial assistance.
A one-time or monthly donation of $125 will provide one student with the opportunity to take one TUMI class at no cost (this includes tuition, student workbooks, textbooks, and class instruction).
In reponse to the men and women of TUMI-LA who wanted specific trainings that covered a wide range of important issues, we created an annual Seminar Series to begin addressing many of these relevant topics that are specific to our city, social context, and particular ministry areas. Each thought-provoking and practical seminar equips, encourages, inspires, and challenges our students to innovate and rethink the way they do ministry in the city.
With a donation of any amount, you can partner with us in providing these highly-relevant seminars at an afforable price - only $10 per person (includes registration, seminar materials, and lunch).
As an Institute dedicated to equipping and empowering urban church leaders, TUMI-LA's Timothy Library offers a way of resourcing urban pastors, Christian lay leaders, missionaries, and others with relevant books and materials that will aid them in their theological training.
With a donation of any amount, we will be able to purchase new books, Bible commentaries, and other resources that give our student access to the most up-to-date theological resources.
Hispanic students now account for 60% of the student body at TUMI-LA. As the number of students who only speak Spanish have increased over the last two years, the need has become apparent that if we are to make our training, seminars, men's conferences, graduations, etc. available to our students and their families, bilingual translation is of the upmost importance.
A donation of $100 will allow us to purchase 1 new translation unit (includes wireless receiver and headphone). We are looking to purchase 10 units total.
Our Institute is looking to purchase technology upgrades in order to provide our students and instructors with classroom equipment that serves them well and allows them access to the latest technology. This includes the following:
